The Pakistan cricket team is currently in England playing practice matches before they start the one-off T20I and five-match ODI series against the World Cup 2019 hosts. They won their first match against Kent by 100 runs, after scoring 358 runs thanks to an unbeaten century from Iman Wasim and contributions from Fakhar Zaman and Haris Sohail.
Fakhar Zaman, who had scored 76 in just 59 balls in the first match, has now gone on to make a century, bettering his previous score. In the second match against Northamptonshire, the home county team elected to bat first after winning the toss. Mohammad Amir removed Richard Levi on the very first ball of the innings, setting the tone for the remainder of the match. But skipper Josh Cobb hit a brilliant 146* in 145 balls with 12 fours and 6 sixes and with contributions from Brett Hutton (27*) and Charlie Thurston (25), took the team to 273/6 in 50 overs.
Zaman hits a brilliant hundred
The reply from Pakistan came wonderfully well, as Imam-ul-Haq made 71 in 79 balls with 5 fours and 2 sixes. But the Man of the moment was Fakhar Zaman, who slammed 101 in 81 balls with 15 fours and 1 six before he was bowled by Nathan Buck. The openers added 157 runs for the first wicket in 23 overs and gave a great platform for other batsmen to build upon and chase down a good looking total.
Fakhar’s innings was reminiscent of his innings against India in the finals of the ICC Champions Trophy in 2017, when he countered the swing and pace of Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar to slam a match and tournament winning hundred. He will be a key to Pakistan’s success in the upcoming ODI series against England and the following ICC World Cup 2019. Twitter was all praises for the left-handed batsman, as his century has put his team in driver’s seat.
Here is how fans on Twitter reacted to the dashing batsman’s performance:

Consistency of Imam will def be key for Pakistan in terms of opening stand but #FakharZaman is one major trump card in #CWC19.🏏🇵🇰 FZ is one who can make Bowlers feel pressure. Moment he scored fifty with over 100 StrikeRate, Pakistan will be favorites to put up a strong total.🔥
