The BCCI selection committee faced a lot of flak from the after they chose to ignore Gautam Gambhir for the upcoming home series against New Zealand. Fans believed that the underperforming Shikhar Dhawan deserves no place in the team and should have been instead replaced by the in-form Gambhir two has been raking run wonderfully in the domestic arena.

The 15 man squad for the home series against the Black Caps was announced today and saw a couple of minor changes. All-rounder Stuart Binny and fast bowler Shardul Thakur both were omitted from the squad. Both these players did not get a game in the West Indies.

However, the fans were eagerly waiting for some big changes to be made. It was anticipated that apart from Binny and Thakur, opener Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma also would get shown the doors out of the test team. And, instead, Gambhir would make back into the team. Unfortunately, for Gambhir wasn’t included and which triggered twitter reaction among cricket fans.

Dhawan and Rohit should probably consider themselves fortunate. Chief selector Sandeep Patil also justified the selection saying that these players need a long run at the Test level to prove their worth.

“It is not just Gautam Gambhir, we also have many senior players. It is good that we have younger players to be able to replace a senior player like Gambhir,” Patil said.

A day before the selection, Gambhir’s supporters were seen holding a carry a 20-feet-long banner that read ‘Bring back Gautam’ standing under the scorching afternoon sun.

Gambhir, the skipper of the India Blue side, has had a great Duleep Trophy so far with 320 runs including a 94 in the first inning of the Duleep Trophy final which is currently ongoing against India Red.
