After rain washed away the whole second day, cricket resumed in Kingston between West Indies and Pakistan on day three of the second Test match. In-form batter Fawad Alam continued his red-hot form and brought up his fifth century. His innings was the biggest reason behind Pakistan getting a score over 300.

Pakistan started the day in a commanding position with 212 for four, but three quick wickets by West Indies pushed them to backfoot. Alam remained calm and composed at the other end and kept the scoreboard ticking with ones and twos. The southpaw added 71 vital runs for the last three wickets and took his team to a commanding position.

The match was marred by some interruptions, as the play was halted for 90 minutes before the start due to a problem in the bowling crease. The interruption though didn’t allow Alam to break from his concentration as he was determined to enable Pakistan to have some advantage. Eventfully, Babar Azam decided to declare on 302 for nine with Alam remaining unbeaten on 124.

Shaheen Shah Afridi’s two wickets enable Pakistan to end the day on high

With a competitive score on board, the visitors’ bowlers started to attack with the new ball and were successful in scalping three wickets. Shaheen Shah Afridi was the star for Pakistan as he picked up two key wickets of the opposition skipper Kraigg Brathwaite and Kieran Powell for four and five runs respectively. Nkrumah Bonner and Roston Chase began rebuilding and, for a brief while it looked as if the duo would take West Indies to the close of day’s play without further loss of wickets. But it was not to be as Faheem Ashraf got the wicket of Roston Chase for 10.

Bad light enabled the umpires to call off day three with West Indies ending the day after losing three wickets for just 39 runs. With two more days to go, provided with rain not robing off cricket, Pakistan should fancy themselves to push for a win. Meanwhile, West Indies would be hoping to draw inspiration from Alam and try to get close to the visitors total of 302.

West Indies won the first Test match and will be eager to at least draw the second and last Test match of the series.
