England found themselves in a bit of trouble after their loss to Sri Lanka. Following their seventh match against Australia at Lord’s, the pressure has somewhat increased on Eoin Morgan and Co. At the iconic venue, the Aussies won comfortably by 64 runs and moved to the top of the table. For the Brits, their remaining two matches are versus New Zealand and India, the unbeaten teams of the mega event.
After Australia were put in to bat first, their openers- David Warner and Aaron Finch- had an arduous time in the middle as Chris Woakes and Jofra Archer beat the bat on a number of instances. However, the Aussie duo weathered the storm and stitched together a stand of 123. Warner scored 53 and also got to 500 runs in the tournament, but Moeen Ali picked him up. Usman Khawaja had a tough stint, scoring 23.
Archer delivered the body blow as he nipped out the dangerous Finch, who scored his second century in three games. Glenn Maxwell threatened with a couple of big shots and then fell prey to Mark Wood. Steve Smith perished to Chris Woakes after scoring 38 in a quest to up the scoring rate. However, it was Alex Carey’s knock of 38 off 27 deliveries that took the Aussies to a formidable score of 285 in 50 overs.
Behrendorff produce magic
The Three Lions got off to a disastrous start as they were reduced to 26/3 in 5.5 overs. Jason Behrendorff ripped James Vince’s poles apart to start the carnage. Mitchell Starc trapped Joe Root in front to jolt the Brits big time. A couple of overs later, skipper Morgan pulled one down the throat of Pat Cummins to give Starc his second wicket. Jonny Bairstow hit five boundaries to score 27 off 39 balls.
After Behrendorff nipped him out, Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes brought their team back into the contest with a 71-run stand. Unfortunately for England, Marcus Stoinis removed Buttler for 25. But Stokes didn’t give up and brought up his second consecutive fifty. It required a searing Yorker from Starc to dismiss him on 89. Thereafter, Behrendorff went on to pick up a five-wicket haul and the hosts folded on 221 in 44.4 overs.

Stoinis, holding his side earlier, bit of a worry for Australia going forward having to cover for the all-rounder. Decisions for the brains trust. #CWC19 #ENGvAUS

Sorry in advance if this hurts some English fans but my observation is if there ever was a one dimensional team it’s this @ECB_cricket . Just refuse to adapt . Very one particular surface oriented unit . Only @root66 and @benstokes38 standout rest almost the same .

It’s like English batsmen were so occupied in scoring 300s, 350s and 400s in the last four years, that they forgot how to score 220s, 250s and 280s.
Nine wickets between Starc and Behrendorff… Oh dear, England! #CWC19 #EngvAus
