VVS Laxman, Vangipurappu Venkata Sai Laxman has a very special place in the history of Indian cricket. The stylish batsman from Hyderabad known for his wristy play, Laxman was often in a position where he found himself swimming against the flow but his determination saw him beat the odds and get through on most occasions.

A superb close-in fielder, for most part of his career VVS was among the safest pair of hands on the cricket field. He was a part of the golden era of Indian cricket and helped the team win some historic matches along with the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid. Laxman can also be termed an unsung hero, in a team which had four top class batsmen, with each having a specific set of skills that placed them in a unique zone.

Like in every sports person’s life, there is one performance that everyone remembers you for. An Indian cricket fan who hadn’t followed Test cricket in the 2000s stills knows about the Kolkata Test against Australia, VVS Laxman’s 281-run knock and how he gave the team a belief that they could beat the most dominant side in the world at that time and they excelled from a position where nobody gave them a chance.

He is a retired cricketer now but still spends most of his time around the 22 yards and a cricket ground. Laxman is a commentator and is a part of the commentary and broadcast team for most international matches the Indian team plays. He has his very special insight and the fans they love to hear him on air. He is a likable individual and has warm relations with most people who know him.
