In a very kind and appreciable gesture, Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir has pledged to bear the educational expenses of the kids of the slain CRPF officials of Sukma Attack. As many as 25 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) officials were killed in the Maoist attack in Sukma, Chhattisgarh on April 25. The attack was launched at a time when they were unprepared and unaware of any such possibility of an attack.
The Jawan were having their lunch when the Naxalites opened fire at them. A total of 99 CRPF Jawans were posted in the region. It was the troop of 36 Jawans that was attacked on the day. As per the reports, the Maoists were tracking the movement of the soldiers with the help of the localites in the region. Just when they realized that the Jawans were having lunch, they opened fire that killed 25 Jawans.
Deadly weapons such as the AK series assault rifles and 5 INSAS rifles were used in the attack. A total of 3420 live rounds of firing was shot at the CRPF officials. The attack sent shockwaves all over the country and condolences for the slain martyrs came from all corners. Among the cricketers, Harbhajan Singh and Gautam Gambhir were very vocal about their concerns for the attack.
A cowardly attack on the CRPF jawans. Condolences to the families who lost their kin in the #SukmaAttack.

Gambhir, who has been very much outspoken in his approach when it comes to the Indian Army, was deeply saddened at the news. He wondered whether the countrymen actually deserve such sacrifices. He wrote, “25 CRPF men sacrificed lives for d country. Sometimes I wonder if we deserve their sacrifice!!!”

He further had expressed his concern over the education of the children of the martyrs. He noted that most people are still busy with their concerns and worries of smaller magnitude than to think about bigger issues of the society such as this. He had written, “As we crib over lack of air conditioning or size of our already mammoth SUV, let’s ponder over d future of d daughters of CRPF martyrs.”
