Royal Challengers Bangalore took on the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens. Captain Virat Kohli won the toss as RCB elected to bat first. While RCB brought in Iqbal Abdullah, KKR featured an unchanged XI from their last game.
Batting first, Kolkata lost Robin Uthappa early. From there on, Gautam Gambhir and Manish Pandey scored splendid half centuries. After they got out, Andre Russell again stormed his way to a quickfire 39 runs from 19 balls. Shakib Al Hasan also provided great support as they steered KKR to a good total.
Knight Riders scored 183/5 in their quota of 20 overs. While Iqbal Abdulla was fantastic, S Aravind took a couple of wickets but was quite expensive as he was smashed away by Russell.
On the other hand, Chris Gayle announced his return to form in style with an elegant 49 from 31 balls. From there on, it was again a Kohli-ABD show. An unbeaten 115 run partnership for the second wicket as they slammed the KKR bowlers according to their will. While Kohli played another masterly knock of 75 from 51 balls, AB de Villiers also shined again with 59 (31).
In the end, Royal Challengers Bangalore secured a dominating victory by 9 wickets with 8 balls to spare. Narine took the lone wicket of Gayle. The other bowlers were quite expensive. Kohli was deservingly announced the man of the match.
Twitter kept everyone entertained with some splendid tweets throughout the RCB-KKR game. Right from lauding Pandey to trolling RCB bowlers and from lauding Gayle-Kohli-ABD to trolling Gambhir, here are some of the Twitter reactions that took place during the course of the game:
RCB won, no kicking of chairs or MCBCs. Just a slight pump of fists with ABD. That's Virat Kohli for you. #RESPECT

No, #KKR, nothing you can do.

Lol! Kohli's reaction to that Gauti argument with the umpire.

Virat Kohli can do anything these days.
Will be able to make Gambhir smile or even prevent Bailey from smiling.#KKRvsRCB— TheGoanPatiala (@TheGoanPatiala) May 16, 2016
Virat Kohli scoring half centuries just like relatives asking me about my marriage whenever I meet them… ?

Teacher: What are you doing these days ?
Student: Chasing my dream like Virat Kohli chases target #KKRvRCB— Shashi (@AllTimeBakchod) May 16, 2016
If Gayle doesnt get you, Kohli will. If Kohli doesnt get you, AB will. On somedays, all 3 of them will hammer you. You are screwed that day.

#RCB are building amazing momentum here. Instead of a team battling survival, they are looking like a team you don't want to face.

Mr & Mr AB de Villiers Virat Kohli would like the pleasure of your company for another bonking of whichever team they're playing#KKRvRCB

Virat Kohli is keeping this match under his control so much that he signaled the strategic time-out even before the umpire. #KKRvRCB

It's a single wide, RCB. Just 2 extra runs. Don't create a show here. That's nowhere close to the blunders you have committed since forever.

What is Andre Russell?
*Do not try this at home or at play*#KKRvsRCB
