The 11th match of the T20 World Cup 2021 Qualifiers (Group A) stage saw action between Namibia and Ireland from Sharjah Cricket Stadium. The match which was crucial for both parties to bag a Super 12 berth ended in Namibia’s favour as they won the game by eight wickets. Winning the toss, Ireland decided to take up the field with the bat first and posted an average total of 125 runs on the board.

The expected names and the top three batting contenders of Ireland only fired and the rest of the batters followed the pattern of coming and leaving in a quick span. The opening stand flourished for the team as Paul Stirling and Kevin O Brien added 38 and 25 runs respectively from their ends. Chipping in at no.3, Andrew Balbirnie played a cameo of 21 runs to help his side.

However, from here on the story of collapse prevailed for Ireland as they struggled to put only 125 runs on the board. Jan Frylinck picked three wickets for his side and had the best economy to offer from the bowling artillery of Namibia as he conceded at 5.20. David Wiese also remained impressive while picking up two wickets and conceding at 5.50 in the day.

Gerhard Erasmus leads Namibia from the front

However, when the chasing game for Namibia began, the opener left shortly after adding just 15 runs. After that point, there followed a show of fine batting effort where Zane Green and David Wiese produced 24 (32) and 28* (14) runs, respectively whereas skipper Gerhard Erasmus led the team from the front by smashing a stunning half-century (53* off 49)

Here is how Twitter reacted to Namibia’s win

Talking of the bowling show from Ireland, Curtis Campher picked two wickets for Ireland while conceding at an impressive 4.70. However, all went in vain as Namibia showed nerves of steel, in the end, to sail into the Super 12 stage.

Talking of the Qualifiers stage, Bangladesh and Scotland have already qualified from Group B for the Super 12 stage. Sri Lanka made a cut quite some time back for the Super 12 stage from Group A and now Namibia became the other team from the same group to qualify.
