The Hobart crowd witnessed a thriller game between Australia and England. The hosts managed to win their second consecutive game in the Tri-Series as they chased the target in the penultimate over. Glenn Maxwell put up an absolutely marvelous performance with both the bat and ball. He was awarded the man of the match.
Put to bat first, Jason Roy continued his indifferent form. Alex Hales and skipper Eoin Morgan scored quickfire twenties. It was the new Middlesex skipper Dawid Malan’s half-century that guided England from the start. With England being 122/4 at the end of 14 overs, they were looking good for a total in the range of 180.
After Sam Billings was dismissed caught and bowled by Ashton Agar, the skipper David Warner surprisingly handed the ball over to Maxwell. The Big Show didn’t disappoint with wickets of Dawid Malan and David Willey off consecutive deliveries. Billy Stanlake had Adil Rashid back in the pavilion, as England were reduced to 127/8.
Chris Jordan’s late effort helped England register 155 runs on the board. Spinners Maxwell and Agar together accounted for five wickets in 5 overs. However, England bowlers were off to a splendid start. Both David Warner and Chris Lynn was dismissed off the first over by David Willey.
That’s when D’Arcy Short and Glenn Maxwell combined for a spectacular 78 run partnership for the third wicket. They rescued Australia from the patchy start. While Marcus Stoinis and Travis Head were out cheaply, it didn’t matter much as Maxwell was quite fluent. He put up a sensational display of his batting as the crowd watched in awe.
He finished it off in style with a six as Australia won the game by five wickets. In the process, he also scored a century and announced his arrival back in form. The English bowlers failed to maintain the pressure after having the openers back in the dugout in a jiffy. Twitter was all praise for Glenn Maxwell while the likes of Jason Roy and Chris Lynn got trolled.

What a spectacular century by Glenn Maxwell, still can’t believe he wasn’t included in the One Day Internationals inspite of that form. #AUSvENG

Good to see Maxi has been "training smarter"
The sooner Smith stays away from any form of cricket aside from tests, the better.#AUSvsENG— Baron (@Baron_Mathers) February 7, 2018
Agar is fast becoming one of Australia’s premier bowlers in T20! Hope he gets a go in ODI’s soon instead of Zampa! #AusVsEng

Glenn Maxwell’s been in great form all summer in every format of the game. But it’s taken until February to get the kudos he deserves. #AUSvENG

Maxwell not playing in all white-ball cricket games this summer has been exposed as just plain lunacy. #AUSvENG

Nothing like one more English batting collapse to round off a summer of cricket ? #AUSvENG

Glenn Maxwell bowling just six overs for the Melbourne Stars this summer one of many confusing parts of their campaign.
Maxi’s got 3/10 tonight – Malan, Morgan and Willey. Like the captaincy from David Warner. #AUSvENG
— Sam Landsberger ? (@SamLandsberger) February 7, 2018
Willey probably thought "34 off 6" happens everyday. #AUSvENG
— Abhishek (@Sajjanlaunda) February 7, 2018

I’m not sure there’s a person alive who loves cricket more than Ricky Ponting #AUSvENG
— Rudi (@RudiEdsall) February 7, 2018
It does make you wonder exactly how stupidly Maxwell was training. Because it must have been phenomenally dense. #AUSvENG
— Dan Liebke (@LiebCricket) February 7, 2018
England are making Glenn Maxwell look good. #AusvEng
