Gujarat Lions began their debut IPL campaign on a winning note as they beat Kings XI Punjab at their home by 5 wickets. Earlier, Suresh Raina won the toss and put Punjab in to bat first.
Manan Vohra 38 (23) and Murali Vijay 42 (34) gave the home team a fantastic start. Halfway into their innings, Punjab were cruising at 87/1 in 10 overs. A total of 200 was well in the reckoning for them but their batsmen messed up the good start and almost nullified the advantage of a solid start.
West Indies all-rounder, the Champion Dwayne Bravo struck twice to get the better of both Glenn Maxwell and David Miller in a single over. He ended up picking a four-wicket haul as the Kings XI Punjab were restricted to 161/6 in their quota of 20 overs. Jadeja also got 2 important wickets.
On the other hand, Gujarat Lions lost Brendon McCullum in the first over as he was stumped by W Saha. However, Finch played an absolutely magnificent innings of 74 runs from just 47 balls. He got out in the end but Dinesh Karthik made sure there were no further hiccups as he managed to play a well-built inning of 41 from 26 balls and Gujarat Lions registered their first ever victory in the IPL.
Twitter kept everyone entertained in probably the first enticing match of the season so far. From lauding Bravo and Finch for their efforts to trolling Kings XI Punjab and Raina. Here are some of the Twitter reactions that took place during the course of the game

A case of 'what they've got' and 'what they could've got' 161 could've-should've been 190…but for Bravo. Stupendous. #KXIPvGL #IPL

Bravo is a maestro at mixing up pace and varying length. Maxwell and Miller in the same over, wow!

Terrific bowling by Bravo to dismiss Maxwell. Goes bouncer, bouncer, yorker. Bowls the Australian for 2. #KXIPvGL

Good from Miller…got to assume more responsibility. It's Miller-Maxwell for me as soon as the powerplay gets over. @hotstartweets #KXIPvGL

First time David Miller is batting at No.3 in IPL. He does it in his first match as captain.#KXIPvGL #IPL2016

MS Dhoni must be feeling like that father, who's sons have started a new business at their own.#KXIPVGL

A new role for Jadeja…not having Ashwin at the other end means he must become the leader of the spin department. Look for wickets #KXIPvGL
