Delhi Daredevils took on the Gujarat Lions at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in New Delhi in a nail-biting encounter between the two sides. Earlier captain Zaheer Khan won the toss as they elected to field first. While DD brought in India U19 wicketkeeper batsman Rishab Pant and Shadab Nadeem, Gujarat had James Faulkner and India U19 skipper Ishan Kishan coming in.

Batting first, Gujarat were off to a flier as they went on to smash 71 runs in the powerplay overs. Dwayne Smith made a magnificent 53 runs from 30 deliveries while Brendon McCullum scored a blazing knock worth 60 runs from just 36 balls. However once both the openers got out, a flurry of wickets fell for Gujarat Lions as they made a mess of the good start.

Faulkner’s cameo, in the end, helped Gujarat end well at 172/6 in their quota of 20 overs. Tahir was the pick of the bowlers as he got 3 wickets while Morris also did well to get 2 wickets and was quite economical as well.

Chasing 173, Delhi Daredevils were reduced to 16/3 as Kulkarni bowled brilliantly. Then, JP Duminy and Morris’ whirlwind partnership of 87 runs from just 39 balls changed the course of the match and almost brought Delhi Daredevils to a winning position. Morris was unbeaten in the end with 82 off 32 but some brilliant death bowling by Gujarat bowlers helped them snatch a thrilling 1 run victory.

Twitter kept everyone entertained throughout the match. Right from lauding Chris Morris to trolling the Gujarat fielders. Here are some of the Twitter reactions that took place during the course of the DD and GL game:
