Twitter Reactions: Hapless Daredevils fail against the Royals in rain-curtailed chase
Rajasthan Royals beat Delhi Daredevils by 10 runs.
The Delhi Daredevils will consider themselves to be highly unlucky. They lost their second game on a trot after their defeat against the Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur. With the defeat, they become the first side in the tournament this year to have lost the game after batting second. However, they were pretty much in control of the game early on in the first innings. It was the rain intervention that put things apart for them.
Chasing 71 in six overs on an outfield that was still reasonably wet was an uphill task. The Delhi camp tried their best by launching their big hitters in the run chase but to no use. Eventually, they fell short by 10 runs to hand the Rajasthan Royals their first win in the season.
Earlier in the game, the Delhi Daredevils had opted to bowl first after winning the toss. They got lucky with their decision as D Arcy Short was run out for the second consecutive time in the tournament in as many number of appearances. Ben Stokes, who then joined Ajinkya Rahane at the crease, faced an absolute beauty from Trent Boult to head back to the dug out with jusy 16 runs to his name.
Sanju Samson and Ajinkya Rahane then added crucial 62 runs for the third wicket to put the Royals in firm command of the innings. Samson played beautifully for his 22-ball 37, and Rahane anchored the innings for the major part with a timely 45 off 40 deliveries. Both batsmen fell in quick succession and the onus was Jos Buttler and Rahul Tripathi to finish the innings on a high.
Buttler and Tripathi targeted Chris Morris in the 18th over to add 18 runs to the total. Buttler perished after scoring 29 and that is when the rains interrupted. Rajasthan Royals finished their innings with 153/5 in 17.5 overs. After a long intervention, the game resumed and the Delhi Daredevils were set a target of 71 in 6 overs. The ask proved to be a little too much. Despite the likes of Colin Munro, Glenn Maxwell, Chris Morris, and Rishabh Pant stepping in to bat on the day, Delhi could only muster 60/4 in six overs.
