Chennai Super Kings (CSK) three-match unbeaten streak eventually came to an end in the 2019 edition of the cash-rich and prestigious Indian Premier League (IPL). Mumbai Indians (MI) didn’t have much difficulty in defeating the MS Dhoni-captained team by 37 runs at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. With the thumping victory, Mumbai’s mediocre Net Run Rate also leapfrogged.
Surya leads the charge
Mumbai didn’t go hell for leather after being put in to bat first. Deepak Chahar struck first blood, dismissing Quinton de Kock. Rohit Sharma also found it tough to time the ball and he perished to Ravindra Jadeja’s very first ball. Yuvraj Singh was the third wicket to fall and as Imran Tahir got his prized scalp. At the other end, Suryakumar Yadav looked at utmost ease and scored a fifty in 38 deliveries.
He also put together a useful stand of 62 runs with Krunal Pandya and set the platform for a final flourish. Pandya also churned out a priceless 32-ball 42 before falling prey to Mohit Sharma. Surya was nipped out by Dwayne Bravo after he scored 59. However, it was the onslaught from Hardik Pandya and Kieron Pollard that helped MI rack up 170 in 20 overs. Bravo conceded a humungous 29 in his last over.
CSK slump in run-chase
CSK got off to a rather horrendous start, losing early wickets. While Jason Behrendorff found Ambati Rayudu’s outside edge, Lasith Malinga nipped out Shane Watson. Suresh Raina smacked two fours and a six, but Behrendorff dismissed him as well. Thereafter, the experienced MS Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav put their heads down and steadied the ship to some extent with a stand of 51 runs from 55 deliveries.
Dhoni strained and fell prey to Pandya after scoring a 21-ball 12. Jadhav scored his half-century in 46 balls, but the required rate kept climbing at an alarming rate. Ravindra Jadeja came following Dhoni’s dismissal and got out to Pandya courtesy of a stupendous catch from De Kock. Jadhav got 58 runs from 54 balls, but his efforts went in vain. For MI, Malinga and Hardik picked up three wickets each.

A very convincing win for #MI after that shaky start in #IPL2019. The credit goes to bowlers as well as batsmen. However, the top and middle-order needs improvement in the future games #MIvCSK #IPL2019 #IPL

Losing to MI doesn't hurt. Losing to a number 7 team in points table hurts. #IPL

This is Mumbai Indians' 100th IPL win (incl one via super over) – becomes the first side in #IPL to do so.

Hardik was the diff. Lovely cameo and two very imp wickets. That’s what clinched the game for @mipaltan and it is a very good win for them. They are back on course. Behrendorff will be a real handful going forward.
