Pakistan’s young fast bowling sensation Hasan Ali made sure that Sri Lanka’s terrible run in cricket continues as he was the biggest key in skittling the team for 209. With his fifer today, he has become the fastest Pakistani bowler to scalp 50 wickets (in 24 matches), surpassing Waqar Younis who took 27 matches to achieve the feat.
It started with Dickwella being clean bowled and extended to Kapugedera, in an over into his new spell. With his second wicket, he registered 37 wickets, the most by any bowler this year. With the wicket of Vandersay, he made it three wickets in three overs, as Sri Lanka continued to crumble. He had gotten into his rhythm by the time Dananjaya came.
The batsman had scored just a run only to fall to Hasan Ali’s wrath in 2 deliveries. Chameera’s wicket was the nail in the coffin for Sri Lanka and the occasion for celebration for the 23-year-old as he was mobbed by his team-mates, registering his 3rd ODI fifer.
Though glimpses of his skill and passion were shown soon after he made his debut, the real hype around him began in the Champions Trophy 2017, where he became the Man of the Series. His bowling display in the Final against India was one of the primary factors that led Pakistan to a huge victory over India. Now known for his ability to create an impact every time he takes the field for Pakistan, Hasan Ali was the one who provided all major breakthroughs in the 3rd ODI against Sri Lanka, today.
Twitter went berserk after his phenomenal bowling display and showered immense praise on the bowler, not only for the fifer but also for breaking Waqar Younis’ record. The bowler now has a collection of 9 wickets in the 3 matches played against Sri Lanka so far.
Here is how Twitter reacted:
