Carnage, carnage and more carnage – These words sum up the second T20I between Afghanistan and Ireland. It was a run feast in Dehradun that was dictated by the 20-year-old Hazratullah Zazai. The youngster decimated the opposition with an unbeaten 162 off 62 balls. Thus, he helped the hosts slam the highest-ever total in the history of T20I cricket.
However, Ireland wasn’t to throw the towel in as easily. Led by skipper Paul Stirling, they tried to the best of their ability but only to fall 85 runs short of the target. Several records were broken in the match as Afghanistan bagged the three-match series 2-0 with one more game to go. A total of 472 runs were scored in the match and it was complete madness and fun.
Words would fall short to describe the destruction from Hazratullah Zazai
The hosts won the toss and elected to bat first in the game. It was destruction right from the word go as Hazratullah Zazai made his intentions of going big nice and clear. 64 runs were scored in the powerplay where Usman Ghani played some cautious cricket. However, he also decided to join the act later on and both of them started going bonkers after the bowlers.
The duo added 236 runs for the opening wicket which is the highest opening partnership in T20I cricket. Ghani was the first to depart after a well-made 73 off 48 balls. The batsmen who came after him only looked to go one way and clear the ropes at all costs. Shafiqullah (7 off 3 balls) and Mohammad Nabi (17 off 5 balls) contributed to the total. Hazratullai Zazai remained unbeaten on 162. Unfortunately, he didn’t get much of strike in the last over and thus failed to break Aaron Finch’s record of 172. Afghanistan put up a massive score of 278/3 after 20 overs.
Paul Stirling tries hard but falls way too short
Just like Afghanistan, Ireland also had a terrific start to the innings. 69 runs were scored in the powerplay and the openers added 126 runs in 11.5 overs before Kevin O’Brien fell for 37. Once this partnership was broken, the pressure got on to the relatively inexperienced Irish batsmen. Paul Stirling, who was going great, was dismissed by Mujeeb Ur Rahman in the next over for 91.
Soon, Rashid Khan ran through the middle-order and dismissed the batsmen for meagre scores. The leg-spinner picked up four wickets in the innings and applied brakes on the scoring rates of Afghanistan. Even though there were a few cameos, they were never taking Ireland anywhere close to the target. Ultimately, the side only managed to get 194 runs in 20 overs and still fell short by 84 runs.
Twitterati was stunned with what transpired in the match. They couldn’t believe the fact that a clean hitter like Hazratullah Zazai went unsold in the IPL 2019 auction. All the talks surrounded the 20-year-old and his heroics in the match.
Here is how Twitterati reacted:

Hazratullah Zazai was called for KXIP trails for this IPL. But unfortunately didn't picked by any IPL franchises.

Hazratullah Zazai with a 42-ball century, 9×4, 9×6, for Afghanistan. Reminder that he was passed over in IPL auction after his 6 6s in an over during Afghan Premier League.
