The Docklands Stadium in Melbourne was a witness to a humdinger between the Melbourne Renegades and Hobart Hurricanes. The match had plenty of twists and turns throughout. However, in the end, the visitors, led by Matthew Wade, came out trumps by four runs. With the victory, the Hurricanes keep their hopes alive off a playoff berth as they still have a mathematical chance.

Wade and Wright make hay

The Hurricanes got off to a blazing start after being put in to bat first. Matthew Wade and Macalister Wright put on 78 runs in the mandatory powerplay. The duo put on 84 runs for the first wicket off 44 balls. Wade was the more severe of the two as he brought up a 22-ball half-century. Cameron Boyce gave the Renegades a breather, dismissing him, who got 66 off 29 with seven fours and three sixes.

Wade’s opening partner, Wright, went on to carry his bat, staying unbeaten on 70 off 59. His knock was laced with six fours and a couple of sixes. David Miller strained to find his feet and went at a strike-rate of 84.61. But it was Ben McDermott’s cameo that got the Hurricanes to a formidable 190 in 20 overs. For the Renegades, Mohammad Nabi and Boyce ended with economy rates in the 6s.

Nabi and Webster try hard

The hosts didn’t make the greatest of starts as Tom Rogers got rid of Marcus Harris in his first over. Sam Harper had to retire hurt after a massive collision while taking a run. He fell head-first on the ground after which he underwent a concussion test. Shaun Marsh was in no mood to die wondering and he got 56 off 30 with four fours and as many sixes. In the last nine overs, the hosts needed 97.

Beau Webster and Mohammad Nabi stitched together a stand of 85 runs off 46 balls to keep the Renegades alive. Nabi threw the kitchen sink at everything and notched his fifty off 25 balls. When he got out on 63 off 30, the home team needed 12 runs from eight deliveries. Webster’s 44-ball 50 also went in vain. Nathan Ellis gave away only six runs in the last overs to win the game for Hobart.
