Chennai Super Kings (CSK) had to deal with the worst news of this season so far them only 12 hours after registering a memorable victory in their comeback game at Chepauk. MA Chidambaram Stadium has been the fortress for them ever since the inception of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and they proved it again the other night by gunning down the target of 203 runs in the final over. However, Twitterati is not at all happy with the decision of all the matches being shifted out of Chennai for this season.
The popularity of the team in the city is immense as they literally celebrated the moment when BCCI confirmed the return of the side to the fray of the IPL. The fans were waiting eagerly ever since then and finally the moment came when the team strode out on the field in front of the raucous crowd. But there were constant threats to shift or postpone all the matches from the political groups and parties as the Cauvery water issue was heating up. They were feared that the IPL might shift the attention from the highly sensitive matter.
Venue not fixed
While the new home for the most celebrated franchise, CSK, is not yet known, it is sure that they won’t be playing at the Chepauk anymore this season. The news comes after severe protests outside the Stadium on Tuesday which led to police arresting some of the members of political party.
Even the shoes were hurled on the ground which had almost hit the South African skipper Faf du Plessis who was carrying drinks at the long on. Even one of the shoes fell near Ravindra Jadeja after which three people were arrested by the Chennai police.
While it is understandable that the issue in the State is very sensitive but there was no reason to oppose the cricket matches in Chennai as it had nothing to do with the politics. Though the decision has been taken now and the tweeples are not at all pleased with it. While only few felt that it was correct, many were against it as the home advantage of CSK was taken away from them.
Here’s how Twitter reacted:
Congratulations. So if sources as reported in Media are confirmed, no more IPL in Chepauk this year & again next year not in April (expecting it out of India due to Elections). Chennai Makkal, be happy because now all the celebs, parties, protestors will bring water to farmers

instead of protesting outside head offices of political parties, regional n national secretariat buildings, i don understand y #Chepauk is targeted? does moving #IPL games out of #Chennai solve the #CauveryIssue ? #Cricket will still continue, but will this move help in solution?

What a let down by the fringe elements in Tamil Nadu. Fans were so happy with CSK back to the den. So harsh on them that matches will be moved out. Also, the team was picked with chepauk in mind. Sad.

It took 2 years for them to see their team play at the #chepauk but thanks to politically motivated hooligans, they will have to wait another 365 days at least. #IPL @ChennaiIPL

So no more #IPL matches in #Chepauk. Sorry @ChennaiIPL Things just went out of the hands. Politicians and Celebrities who want to the venue to be shifted feels happy now.

Bad News for CSK fans: Not play any other match in M. A. Chidambaram Stadium Chepauk, Chennai in this #IPL2018 Season.#IPL2018 #CSK

TV news reports that, TN police department had clearly told the BCCI that deploying so many cops (4000+ yday) for every #CSK #Chepauk match would not be feasible & practical. The BCCI took the call that it's just not worth the risk. The club will abide by what the board decides!

So their logic is if there is no IPL ; there is no need to water grass at Chepauk stadium.
So no match means there is no need to maintain grounds ..

CSK matches to be shifted from Chepauk. Okay, let's consider Ranchi as a VERY GOOD option. Come on @ChennaiIPL , we are waiting !
