The Multan Sultans started their campaign in the 2022 edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) with a comfortable 7-wicket victory over the Karachi Kings side. Chasing a target of 125 set by the Kings, the Sultans romped past the finish line with 10 deliveries remaining.
Skipper Mohammad Rizwan played a pivotal knock for his side. The right-handed wicketkeeper batter scored a match-winning 47-ball 52* for his side and stayed till the end to steer his side past the finish line.
Apart from Rizwan, the likes of Shan Masood and Sohaib Maqsood also contributed vital runs as well. While Masood scored a quick 26 off 18 deliveries, Maqsood helped himself to a sedate 31-ball 30. Mohammad Nabi was the pick of the bowlers, and scalped 2 wickets in his 3.2 over spell, and gave away 17 runs.
Sharjeel Khan helps Karachi Kings post 124/5 on the board
Earlier, the Karachi Kings batted first and posted a total of 124/5 on the board. Left-hander Sharjeel Khan top-scored for his side with a classy 43 off 31 deliveries. Khan put on an opening partnership of 66 runs with skipper Babar Azam, who scored a 29-ball 23.
Wicketkeeper Joe Clarke also scored a valuable 26 off 24 deliveries as well. But then, the Karachi Kings’ innings never took off, as the Sultans’ bowlers constantly put the brakes. Imran Tahir was outstanding with the ball in hand. The veteran leg spinner scalped 3 wickets in his 4 overs and gave away just 16 runs as well. Apart from Tahir, the likes of Shahnawaz Dahani and Khushdil Shah also picked up a solitary wicket each to peg back the opposition.
Imran Tahir won the Player of the Match award for his match-winning spell with the ball in hand. The Multan Sultans will next take on the Lahore Qalandars on 29th January 2022, while the Karachi Kings will lock horns with the Quetta Gladiators on the same day as well.

If Karachi had not let go of Rizwan… it would have been Babar and him opening. Inevitably, I don’t think the other teams would have even had a chance in the tournament. #PSL7 #KKvMS #Babar #Rizwan
