Shreyas Iyer was the only decent batsman for DC as others collapsed.

The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are back to the winning ways. Their skipper MS Dhoni returned at the helm and the normalcy prevailed yet again. They finished off well after a poor start and then the bowlers were exceptional coupled with Dhoni’s stumping skills as the Delhi Capitals crumbled in front of the spinners in the yellow jersey. They were thrashed by 80 runs as CSK returned to the top of the table and have almost sealed their position in the top two.
The chase began poorly for the Capitals with Prithvi Shaw getting out to Deepak Chahar in the very first over. However, Shreyas Iyer came out to take the attack to the opposition bowlers and he was successful in shifting the momentum. The visitors got close to the 60-run mark after the first six overs and just when one thought that they had recovered from the early blow, Harbhajan Singh struck gold to send back Shikhar Dhawan.
The wicket literally triggered a collapse as Ravindra Jadeja and Imran Tahir wreaked havoc. The duo shared seven wickets between them and the run-scoring became immensely difficult. The pitch turned square and the Capitals had no answer to it. Iyer looked extremely good during his stay but with the wickets falling, even he lost his calmness and was at the receiving end of a Dhoni-masterclass behind the stumps.
They could never come back in the game and were eventually bowled out for 99 runs in the 17th over falling short of the target by a massive 80 runs.
Thala and Chinna Thala make merry
Earlier, CSK got off to an extremely slow start with the opposition attacking them with the spinners. Trent Boult also swung the ball well to keep Faf du Plessis and Shane Watson on the tenterhooks. The latter struggled during his stay and couldn’t even score a run only to get out for a nine-ball duck. Suresh Raina arrived and changed the momentum completely then.
He has been struggling whole season but was sublime in his approach on the day. His swashbuckling hitting helped Faf play his patient knock. The duo added 83 runs for the second wicket and then began the finishing act. MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja batted superbly to rip apart the death bowling of DC in Kagiso Rabada’s absence. Dhoni ended with 44 off just 22 deliveries and the finisher was back in style for CSK.
CSk added 109 runs in the last eight overs and that turned out to be game-changing again. A score of 179 runs on the board was too much for the opponents as they went down inside 17 overs in the chase.

Honestly, if ever a team’s DNA consisted of one player it is @ChennaiIPL in the form of M S Dhoni. The man is simply brilliant. Those stumping were crazy good. And he is just their everything tactically and talisman with the bat.
