Twitter Reactions: Sneh Rana's all-round brilliance takes India to comprehensive win over Bangladesh
Batter Yastika Bhatia was adjudged player of the match for her gritty knock
Team India completed a dominant victory over their neighbours Bangladesh in Match 22 of 2022 ICC Women’s World Cup, played at Seddon Park in Hamilton on March 22 (Tuesday). The Women in Blue had set a target of 230 runs for Bangladesh. However, the chasing team crumbled in their reply to say the least. As a result, India went on to win the game comfortably by a margin of 110 runs.
Skipper Mithali Raj, after winning the toss, opted to bat first. Team India had a perfect start, with openers Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma stitching a partnership of 74 runs for the first wicket. However, Team India suffered three blows in a span of five balls. At first, the left-arm-spinner Nahida Akter scalped opener Mandhana. However, the real damage was done by pacer Ritu Moni, scalping both Verma and skipper Mithali off consecutive deliveries.
Despite Yastika Bhatia’s gritty half-century, as well as, vital contributions from wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh (26 off 36 balls), Pooja Vastrakar (30 off 33 balls) and Sneh Rana (27 off 23 balls), Team India could only manage 229/7 in their allotted 50 overs. For Bangladesh, pacer Moni was the pick of the bowlers taking three wickets, and giving only 37 runs in her 10-over quota. Spinner Akter also scalped two wickets, while pacer Jahanara Alam claimed a solitary wicket.
Bangladesh never looked comfortable in their chase
In reply, Bangladesh started cautiously, scoring only 12 runs in their first five overs. However, left-arm-spinner Rajeshwari Gayakwad scalped the wicket of opener Sharmin Akhter in the sixth over. Team India were then all over their opponents, as they picked five Bangladeshi wickets with just 35 runs on the board. Middle-order batter Lata Mondal (24 off 46 balls) and Salma Khatun (32 off 35 balls) tried to revive the chase. However, as soon as they were removed by the Indian bowlers, it was curtains down for the chasing side.
Off-spinner Sneh Rana was the pick of the bowlers for the Women in Blue, taking four wickets in her 10-over quota. Veteran pacer Jhulan Goswami and Pooja Vastrakar took two wickets each, while spinner Pooja Yadav and Gayakwad grabbed one wicket a piece. Batter Yastika Bhatia was adjudged Player of the mMatch for her gritty innings with the bat.
