Following a close defeat in Visakhapatnam, India came out firing on all cylinders in the second encounter at the renowned M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. Nevertheless, a hurricane by the name of Glenn Maxwell authoritatively blew the Men in Blue away by seven wickets. Subsequently, Australia also clinched the series 2-0. The series defeat also turned out to be Virat Kohli’s first on home soil.
Kohli stamps his authority
After being put in to bat first, KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan put on 61 for the first wicket in 43 balls. Rahul carried on with his impressive form and found the boundaries without much fuss. He went on to notch 47 runs from 26 balls with three fours and four sixes. The Karnataka batsman was eventually nipped out by Nathan Coulter Nile. Dhawan couldn’t get going and managed 14 from 24 deliveries.
Rishabh Pant couldn’t survive and perished to D’Arcy Short after scoring one. Thereafter, captain Kohli and MS Dhoni steadied the ship and pressed the accelerator as the innings passed by. Kohli racked up a fifty in 29 balls and remained not out on 72 from 38 balls with two fours and four over-boundaries. Dhoni chipped in with 40 from 23 balls with three fours and as many sixes. India ended with 190 for 4.
Maxwell mauls India
Australia didn’t have the best of starts as Marcus Stoinis and Aaron Finch got out for seven and eight respectively. While Siddarth Kaul accounted for the former’s wicket, Vijay Shankar got rid of the out-of-form Finch. Short also turned up with a handy 40 from 28 balls with six boundaries before becoming Shankar’s second victim in the 12th over. The Aussies still needed a significant 96 runs from 65 balls.
However, Glenn Maxwell came out all guns blazing and took the Indian bowling by the scruff of its neck. The Victorian accomplished his half-century in 28 balls and got the Aussies close to the target. Maxwell carried on in his own merry way and racked up his third T20I century in 50 balls. Australia needed nine off the last over and Glenn remained not out on 113 to take the visiting team over the finishing line.
Here is how Twitter praised Maxwell
Brilliant from Australia. I would say it was an even contest with both sides not playing to their bowling strength but eventually Maxwell made the 'Max' difference. Scintillating 100 from him #IndvAus
