The Birmingham crowd witnessed a sensational semi-final game between India and Bangladesh with the cricketing world all set to witness the mother of all clashes in the CT 2017 final. Yes, that’s what the doctor ordered, India vs Pakistan final for the Champions Trophy title.

India produced some outstanding performances with both the bat and the ball as they registered their third victory in the tournament. Earlier in the day, it was Virat Kohli who won the toss as India elected to bowl first. Both teams had an unchanged XI from their previous games.

Bangladesh weren’t off to a great start as Soumya Sarkar and Sabbir Rahman were dismissed early. Just when it seemed Indian bowlers were off to a great start, Tamim Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rahim stitched a brilliant partnership to rescue Bangladesh out of the woods. Both slammed half centuries as they stitched a stand worth 123 runs for the third wicket.

At 154/2 by the end of 28 overs, very few would’ve predicted Bangladesh scoring anything under 300. Kedhar Jadhav got a much-needed breakthrough as it brought India back into the game. The Indian bowlers’ death bowled really well in the end to restrict Bangladesh scoring. Skipper Mashrafe Mortaza’s late effort helped Bangladesh post 264/7 in their 50 overs.

A total of 265 could’ve been challenging had Bangladesh got an early wicket. However, the Indian openers were off to a stellar start as both Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma went on to put up an opening stand of 87 runs before Mortaza got Dhawan. That was the only nail Bangladesh could put in as they failed to pick another wicket.

Such was the domination of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli at the crease that they smashed their bowlers out of the park with some effortless batting all around. An unbeaten match winning partnership of 178 runs to rattle the opposition. Rohit went on to score a century while Kohli was not out on 96 as India registered an astounding performance with the bat winning it by 9 wickets.
