Twitter Reactions: India falter in the chase after Colin Munro's stupendous hundred
Right from lauding Colin Munro to trolling Kane Williamson, from lauding Virat Kohli to trolling Hardik Pandya and MS Dhoni Twitterati had another field day.
In a run-fest at Rajkot, New Zealand went on to win a thrilling encounter. With this win, the series is now levelled at 1-1 with the decider to be played in Kerala on Tuesday. Quite contradictory to the first game, India failed to make a difference in all the three departments and lost a one-sided game.
Earlier in the day, it was skipper Kane Williamson who won the toss as New Zealand elected to bat first. Tim Southee and Tom Latham made way for Glenn Phillips and Adam Milne in the playing XI. As for India, Mohammed Siraj made his international debut.
Batting first, the Kiwis were off to a stellar start. Both Martin Guptill and Colin Munro unleashed themselves at the Indian bowling line-up. They combined for a partnership of 105 runs for the first wicket. Guptill’s stay at the crease was cut short as Yuzvendra Chahal accounted for his wicket.
While skipper Kane Williamson was dismissed cheaply in what was Siraj’s first international wicket, Colin Munro went on to register a stupendous hundred. During his 109 (58)*, he smashed 7 boundaries and 7 sixes. Tom Bruce provided a good cameo as New Zealand posted a total of 196/2 in their quota of 20 overs.
As for India, they were off to a really poor start. Trent Boult had both Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma back to the pavilion in his first over. Youngster Shreyas Iyer seemed in the groove for a while but ended up bowing to the pressure. Hardik Pandya was dismissed cheaply again by Ish Sodhi as India were reduced to 67/4.
Skipper Virat Kohli scored a fantastic fifty as he led India’s run chase. However, the required rate kept climbing as MS Dhoni failed to score quick runs. Eventually, he got out for 65 runs from 42 balls. Axar Patel was out soon enough while Dhoni was dismissed for 49 (37). In the end, the target of 197 proved to be too much for India as they fell short by 40 runs.
Twitter had a splendid time throughout the game. Right from lauding Colin Munro to trolling Kane Williamson, right from lauding Virat Kohli to trolling Hardik Pandya and MS Dhoni Twitterati had a field day.
