After the disastrous Florida leg of the T20I series against India, Windies couldn’t change their fortunes even in Guyana. At the Providence Stadium, Carlos Brathwaite and Co lost their sixth T20I consecutive to India by seven wickets. Most importantly, the Caribbean team slumped to their second whitewash at the hands of India in the format. The visiting team turned out to be a bit too strong.

Kieron Pollard stands tall

Kohli won his third toss in a row and opted to field, citing moisture on the pitch as a reason. The bowlers didn’t let him down, especially Deepak Chahar, who removed the top three- Evin Lewis, Sunil Narine and Shimron Hetmyer- in his first two overs. Nicholas Pooran found the fence two times, but couldn’t rotate the strike. Navdeep Saini picked him up for the second time in the series.

Pooran was involved in a 66-run stand with Kieron Pollard (58) though. Pollard bailed his team out of jail, hitting a four and clearing the ropes six times. Saini castled him to give India the much-needed breather. Leg-spin bowler Rahul Chahar got his first international wicket in the form of Carlos Brathwaite. At the death, Rovman Powell (32) flayed his willow and took the visitors to 146.

Pant and Kohli take charge

Shikhar Dhawan pulled one off Oshane Thomas to Sheldon Cottrell at short fine-leg to start India’s run-chase. KL Rahul (20) had a rush of blood and threw his wicket away to Fabian Allen. Rishabh Pant (65) and Virat Kohli (59) had the task of resurrecting the innings. They brought up their 50-run stand off 45 balls. India needed to achieve a rather stiff target of 71 in the last eight overs.

The good thing was that the duo didn’t allow the rate to escalate alarmingly. Kohli brought up his half-century off 37 balls. Even Pant started pressing the accelerator and he got to his fifty off 37 balls as well. By the end of the 17th over, Kohli and Pant had brought the required-rate to a run-a-ball. Thomas nipped out Virat, but by then it was too late. India tracked the target down in 19.1 overs.

Here is how Twitter lauded India on the clean sweep
