The odds in final of the Asia Cup between India and Bangladeshย in Dubai were heavily stacked against Mashrafe Mortaza’s men and the Men in Blue were expected to win. Nevertheless, the Men in Blue strained to get over the line, but eventually, they did by three wickets. Moreover, they defended their title and won the championship for the seventh time. Meanwhile, the Tigers lost yet another final of a multi-nation event.
Liton Das guides the Tigers
Losing the toss turned out to be a blessing in disguise for Bangladesh as their openers- Liton Das and Mehidy Hasan Miraz put together 120 runs from 125 balls to take their team off to an exceptional start. The former scored his maiden ton in ODIs and was arguably their standout batsmen. The stand was broken by Kedar Jadhav after which the Tigers lost their way to some extent.
Mashrafe Mortaza’s men lost their 10 wickets for 102 runs in a space of 27.4 overs. Kuldeep Yadav delivered the body blow with the wicket of Liton for 121 runs. Barring the opening batsmen, only Soumya Sarkar could get into the double figures (33) and Bangladesh were eventually bowled out for 222. Moreover, they were bowled out nine balls short of their 50 overs.
India huff and puff, but prevailย
Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan started the run chase in their attacking style, but Nazmul Islam drew first blood with the wicket of the left-handed Dhawan. Rayudu couldn’t contribute and became Mashrafe Mortaza’s first victim. Rohit threatened, however, Rubel Hossain nipped him out. Nevertheless, MS Dhoni and Dinesh Karthik put their heads down.
However, both Karthik and Dhoni perished with India still needing over 70 runs. To add to India’s agony, Jadhav developed a hamstring injury and he had to retire hurt. The onus was then on Ravindra Jadeja and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, both of whom played carefully as the required rate kept climbing. The match eventually went right down to the last ball and it was Jadhav who came back to score the winning runs.

Bhuvi looks good enough at 8 and Jadeja looked composed enough at 7. But India still need to get their head around 4,5,6.

A lot of credit to Bangladesh for coming as far as the 50th over of the Asia Cup final without Tamim and Shakib. Just goes to show how far the ODI side has come. There'll be questions about their top-order but for now, let it all sink in.

Kedar Jadhav: I'm still a batsman who can bowl
Kuldeep Yadav: I scored a lot of runs in First-Class cricket and I would now consider myself as a bowling all-rounder #INDvBAN #AsiaCup2018 #AsiaCup #AsiaCupfinal

Lovely stuff from KP. Banter suggests Jadhav was faking his injury then pulls the mic away halfway through his answer. He's v good at these on pitch interviews, though.
