Twitter Reactions: India pull off a historic run chase guided by Kohli-Jadhav special
The Pune crowd witnessed one of the most historic matches ever played between India and England. This was Virat Kohli’s first match as the permanent captain of the Indian team and he started things in style by winning the toss. The hosts elected to field first, and that’s what you’d expect from Virat. He loves chasing, doesn’t he?
While Jason Roy continued his fine form in India, Hales got out cheaply. Roy went on to score a vibrant 71 runs from just 63 balls with 12 boundaries. Root again displayed his class with a brilliant 78. Morgan and Buttler also made fine contributions.
However, the main game for England began as Ben Stokes cut loose along with some support from Moeen Ali. What followed was 105 runs in the last 8 overs of the England innings. Ben Stokes went on to score a gritty 62 runs from 40 balls.
The Indian bowlers were smashed all over the park. Surprisingly, Hardik Pandya was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 2/46. Jadeja also did well with his 1/50. Rest everyone from Ashwin to Yadav were quite expensive.
India didn’t begin quite in a splendid fashion. Dhawan got out and KL Rahul followed him back to the pavilion. Yuvraj looked good in the beginning but couldn’t stay longer. MS Dhoni went for a loose shot and ended up getting caught. India were 63/4 in no time, with England eyeing a victory.
Cometh the hour and cometh the man, Virat Kohli played one of the greatest captain’s knock you’d ever see. He went on to score his 27th century in One Day Internationals. As it is, chasing 350 is not a one man’s job, and it took a masterclass innings to shadow Kohli’s knock.
He played an innings at No. 6 that even MS Dhoni would be proud of. Scoring 120 runs from just 76 balls, Jadhav set up a magnificent display of pinch hitting. In a knock, that had 12 boundaries and 4 maximums, English bowlers found it really tough to bowl at him.
After a fantastic 200 run stand, Kohli got out and Jadhav too sometime later. The job was yet to be done and Hardik Pandya failed to disappoint with a superb 40 not out to help India register a historic run chase. Ashwin finished it off with a six as India won the game by 3 wickets.
Twitter was appalled by the run chase. With the kind of brave front shown by Kohli and Jadhav after being 63/4 at one stage, it took a stellar effort to pull it off and both displayed exactly the same type of valour. There were lots of accolades while many remarked it as one of the best run chases ever.
Here are some of the amazing Twitter reactions that took place during the course of the game:
