The dismal run of the India U19 team continued in the ACC U19 Asia Cup this year. They suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Bangladesh U19 in their most recent fixture. It was their last league game and the defeat now sees the defending champions knocked out of the competition. This is certainly not the first upset for the men in blue in the competition. They were earlier humbled by Nepal U19 by 19 runs.
The ouster of team India from the competition has seen history being created by Nepal. Nepal U19 has stormed into the semis with 2 wins in 3 matches. They have qualified for the semis along with Bangladesh U19 from the Group A. Talking about the Group B standings at the end of the league stages, Afghanistan U19 have topped the group. The other team that qualified for the semis along with them is Pakistan U19.
It has been a historic tournament of some serious proportions considering the fact that the likes of Nepal U19 and Afghanistan U19 have moved to the penultimate stage of the tournament. If either of them go on to win the title, it will be huge for the game in their nation.
Commenting on the defending champions, India had locked horns with Bangladesh in a must win game. The Himanshu Rana-led side batted first in the rain affected match that was reduced to 32 overs a side. The team managed to post a decent total of 187/8 riding on 30s from Anuj Rawat and Salman Khan.
However, they were blown away by Pinak Ghosh’s whirlwind unbeaten 81 off 77 deliveries in the run chase. Also, Towhid Hridoy slammed 48 off 32 deliveries with 4 sixes to see the Bangladesh team register an emphatic 8 wicket win. Their win also helped Nepal U19 secure a semifinal berth. India’s only win in the tournament came against Malaysia U19.

Why this dismal performance by Indian U19 team? Lost to Nepal now on a verge to lose against Bangladesh.
