The dead-rubber syndrome has affected Team India badly in the fourth ODI against New Zealand at the Seddon Park in Hamilton. The fact that their number 10 Yuzvendra Chahal was the highest run-scorer of the innings proves the top-order literally didn’t do anything. Trent Boult wreaked havoc with a sensational five-wicket haul as he bowled his 10-over spell on the trot to return with the figures of 5/21.
New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson opted to bowl first on what was supposed to be a flat pitch. India handed a debut to their U19 sensation Shubman Gill in place of Virat Kohli and he was in the action soon batting at number three. The opening duo of Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan added 21 runs before the latter was pinned in front of the stumps by a vicious Boult inswinger.
The procession started then. Rohit hit one straight back to the same bowler and even Gill got out in the same fashion. Ambati Rayudu and Dinesh Karthik have got to blame themselves as they blew away an opportunity to seal their place. Both of them played poor shots to gift the wicket away and didn’t even open their account. Even Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Kedar Jadhav didn’t do much to leave the team reeling at 40/7.
Kul-Cha add 35 runs together
India’s lowest total of 54 runs was in danger then. But India’s spin twins came together to bail them out of the trouble to some extent. Before that, Hardik Pandya played a few shots but lacked game awareness. He was undone by a short ball from Boult in his last over to give him his fifth five-wicket haul. At 55/8, the end was nigh.
But Kuldeep and Chahal denied New Zealand quick glory by playing defensively. The duo added 35 runs for the ninth wicket and actually showed the batsmen that it is possible to score runs on the wicket. But even their efforts couldn’t take India past the three-figure score as they were bundled out for just 92 runs in the 31st over. Colin de Grandhomme also had a field day to end with 3/26 in his ten overs.

We: If they're not champions without Smith and Warner, then they better should not be.
Also we: New Zealand are destroying us because Dhoni and Virat isn't in the team. Otherwise, they're nothing.#INDvsNZ #4thODI— Lasya (@challalasya) January 31, 2019
