Windies might have played some good ODI cricket at home of late. However, their best didn’t come in the second ODI against India. In this game, the ‘Men in Blue’ won the toss and opted to bat first. But they suffered a body blow early on as Shikhar Dhawan had to walk back to the pavilion right in the first over. His poor form against left-arm pacers continued as Sheldon Cottrell trapped him LBW.
Rohit Sharma, then, offered some resistance but ended up consuming way too many deliveries for his liking. Thus, out of frustration, he tried to go for the big heave and in the process gave his wicket away. Rishabh Pant was also in a similar situation and got out while attempting to play a rash shot. However, even though he was losing partners at the other end, Virat Kohli was in complete control.
In was a record-breaking knock for him as he went on to get his 42nd ODI century. With the right partner in Shreyas Iyer at the other end, India seemed to be unstoppable at one point. But, Windies pulled things back beautifully in the last 10 overs of the game where they conceded only 67 runs. Kedar Jadhav and Ravindra Jadeja scored 16 runs each as the side got to 279/7 in 50 overs.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar continues with his good record at the Queen’s Park Oval
In the 13th over of the Windies innings, there was a rain interruption. Therefore, the revised target was 270 in 46 overs. But before that, Bhuvneshwar Kumar trapped Chris Gayle LBW. Even Shai Hope chopped one back onto his stumps off the bowling of Khaleel Ahmed. Yet, Evin Lewis was going strong from one end and Nicholas Pooran was playing well. In the 28th over, they were at 148/3 and cruising along nicely.
However, Bhuvneshwar Kumar picked up some quick wickets breaking their back. From this commanding position, the Caribbean side was reduced to 182/8 and was bowled out for 210 as they lost the game by 59 runs. Twitterati was all praise for Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer who did a fabulous job with the bat. They also applauded Bhuvneshwar Kumar for his four-wicket haul.

Virat Kohli has never gone more than five half centuries without converting to a century. He was on the cusp of it today, but No 42 was inevitable. Privelidged to be around to see the master of modern ODI cricket batting. #bestallformatplayer
