New Zealand’s woes do not seem to end. Coming into the ODI series, New Zealand hoped for revival of fortunes. They were bolstered by the return of Corey Anderson and Tim Southee. India fielded Kedar Jadhav in place of Suresh Raina in the playing eleven. All-rounder Hardik Pandya made his ODI debut. Indian skipper MS Dhoni resumed the captaincy duties in the limited overs. After winning the toss, India put in New Zealand to bat first.

New Zealand openers Martin Guptill and Tom Latham walked into the middle as Umesh Yadav took the new ball. Skipper Dhoni sprung a surprise as he handed the ball to Hardik Pandya to share the new ball ahead of Jasprit Bumrah. Pandya delivered the goods too and dismissed Martin Guptill early in the innings. Kane Williamson continued his poor run on the tour as he perished trying to slash one over the third man off the bowling of Umesh Yadav.

Yadav also accounted for Ross Taylor’s golden duck. Hardik Pandya was amongst the wickets yet again. He finished with figures of 3/31 on debut. Wickets kept falling in heap and New Zealand were staring right at a potential lowest ODI score for them. Kedar Jadhav came in to bowl his part-timers ahead of regular spinners Amit Mishra and Axar Patel.

Jadhav, who has only 1 wicket in domestic cricket in 79 matches, struck gold today. He scalped two wickets in two balls to leave New Zealand reeling on 67/7 by the end of 19 overs. Tim Southee was dropped on 2 by Umesh Yadav. It was an absolute sitter that should have been taken. Earlier in the day, he had grabbed a stunner to dismiss Corey Anderson.

Towards the end of the innings, Tom Latham brought up his half century. He was well supported by Tim Southee who struck his maiden fifty as well. New Zealand eventually wrapped up on 190 in 43.5 overs. The Twitterati had a lot to talk about and were very active in highlighting the key aspects of the match.
