Twitter Reactions: Jasprit Bumrah's sensational spell goes in vain as KKR stay alive in playoff race
The MI pace spearhead breathed fire with the old ball and scalped his maiden five-fer.
We are surely witnessing some drama towards the business end of IPL 2022. Kolkata Knight Riders produced a clinical performance in the do-or-die game against Mumbai Indians and recorded a 52-run triumph. This victory means the two-time champions are still mathematically alive in the playoff race. On the other hand, MI continued to reel at the bottom of the team standings with yet another defeat.
Earlier in the match, Mumbai Indians won the toss and opted to bowl at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai. KKR embraced the challenge with brilliance as openers Venkatesh Iyer and Ajinkya Rahane added 60 runs for the first wicket. While the former was the aggressor and did the bulk of the scoring, Rahane took the backseat and played the second fiddle.
Jasprit Bumrah recorded his best figures in IPL
While Venkatesh scored a 24-ball 43, Rahane scored 25 runs. Number-three batter Nitish Rana also looked in fine touch as he scored some delightful shots all over the park. With the scorecard reading 123/3 in 13 overs, KKR looked all set to post a gigantic total. However, Jasprit Bumrah had other plans. The MI pace spearhead breathed fire with the old ball and scalped his maiden five-fer in IPL.
His sensational bowling spell derailed KKR’s innings as the two-time champions were restricted to 165/9 in their allotted 20 overs. Although Bumrah minimized the damage by a fair margin, MI batters couldn’t come to the party. Skipper Rohit Sharma endured yet another failure as he walked back for just two runs. While Ishan Kishan did bring up a half-century, his reluctant approach meant the required run rate kept going up.
Shreyas Iyer rotated his bowlers brilliantly as MI lost wickets at regular intervals. The likes of Ramandeep Singh, Tim David and Kieron Pollard did get starts but neither of them could play an innings of substance. While Pat Cummins, who took three wickets, was the pick of the KKR bowlers, Andre Russell dismissed a couple of batters. As a result, KKR were bundled out for 113, losing the contest by 52 runs.
Meanwhile, let’s look at how Twitter reacted to KKR’s triumph:
