Twitter Reactions: Jonny Bairstow entertains with back-to-back tons in the World Cup
Bairstow eventually fell prey to Matt Henry after reaching his century.
Though he had one score in the 90s versus Afghanistan in Manchester, Jonny Bairstow was looking far from his brutal self in the ongoing World Cup. Moreover, in a lot of games, he threw his wicket away after doing the hard yards. However, the Yorkshireman has turned his fortunes around in the last couple of encounters and is going from strength to strength as the mega event moves into its business end.
The right-hander hammered his way to a century against India at the Edgbaston in Birmingham. The knock fetched him the Player of the Match award as the Brits won the game by 31 runs. After the stupendous knock, the 29-year-old batsman turned up with another jaw-dropping performance, tormenting the New Zealand bowling at the Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street.
Jonny Bairstow demolishes the Black Caps’ bowlers
Bairstow notched back-to-back centuries to keep the Kiwis’ bowlers at bay. The Three Lions won the toss and didn’t have any hesitation to bat first on what seemed to be an excellent batting strip. He built a useful 123-run stand with Jason Roy to start weaving magic. Even after Roy got out on 60, Bairstow didn’t stop and carried on with the good work along with Joe Root, who’s been in excellent touch.
The duo put on 61 runs for the second wicket. Meanwhile, Bairstow reached his hundred with a couple of scorching shots off Tim Southee. In the fourth ball of the 30th over, the opener pulled Southee for a boundary through backwards square leg. In the next delivery, he played out a dot. However, in the very next ball, he tucked the ball on the leg side to accomplish his ton off 95 deliveries.
To the Three Lions’ dismay, Bairstow couldn’t extend his stay in the middle. Matt Henry castled him with an outswinger that took the batter’s inside edge, cannoning into the timber. Bairstow’s knock of 106 runs off 99 balls was laced with 15 fours and one six. Prior to his dismissal, Trent Boult got rid of Root and all of a sudden, England lost two quick wickets. Meanwhile, Twitter praised Bairstow for his ton.
