The England national team has been playing exceptionally ever since their exit from the 2015 edition of the World Cup. The Three Lions have dominated in the ODI and T20I format and one of the members of the team is Jonny Bairstow, who has been a fulcrum of the Brits. The Yorkshire-born wicketkeeper-batsman is currently playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Back in 2018, he remained unsold after registering himself at a base price of INR 1.5 crore. However, that wasn’t the case in this year as the Orange Army bagged his services at 2.2 crores. Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) went at the Englishman with all its might, but the Sunrisers came out trumps. The 29-year-old has played three matches thus far in the T20 tournament and hasn’t flattered to deceive by any means.

Bairstow demolishes the Challengers

In the first match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), he scored 39 runs and impressed very much. Bairstow racked up 45 runs against the Rajasthan Royals (RR). The swashbuckling batsman carried on with his rich vein of form even in the third encounter against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad where he scored his maiden IPL century.

After the visiting team won the toss and elected to bowl first, Bairstow combined with David Warner and stitched together a stand of 185 runs off 98 deliveries. It also turned out to be the highest opening stand ever in the T20 extravaganza, surpassing Chris Lynn and Gautam Gambhir’s a couple of seasons ago against the Suresh Raina-captained scrapped Gujarat Lions.

Jonny Bairstow got to his half-century in 28 balls and he notched the ton in 52 balls, therefore becoming the second centurion after Sanju Samson in this edition’s IPL. Leg-spinner Yuuzvendra Chahal nipped him out after the batsman raced away to 114 runs from 56 balls with the help of 12 boundaries and seven sixes. After the masterclass, Twitterati heaped praises on him.

Here is how Twitter praised the Englishman
