Twitter Reactions: Jos Buttler outclasses Quinton de Kock to shoulder the Royals
The game turned out to be an absolute humdinger.
The match between the Mumbai Indians (MI) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai went down to the last over. In the end, it was visiting team, captained by Ajinkya Rahane, won by four wickets. The hosts came was down and out, but it came back strongly. Nevertheless, Rohit Sharma and Co slumped to a defeat and the win ended their winning streak in this edition’s IPL.
De Kocks plays brilliantly
On an excellent batting wicket, the Royals elected to field first after winning the toss. Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock put on an opening-wicket stand of 96 runs from 10.5 overs. Rohit has looked rusty this season, but not today as he ended up scoring 47 runs from 32 balls with six boundaries and one over-boundary. Jofra Archer got his prized wicket. Suryakumar Yadav perished after getting 16 from 10 balls.
Kieron Pollard batted at number four even this time around, but could only score six runs from 12 balls. At the other end, De Kock looked ominous and accomplished his half-century in 34 balls. The wicketkeeper-batsman went on to play until the 19th over and notched 81 runs from 52 balls with six boundaries and four sixes. Hardik Pandya blazed away to an 11-ball 28 to take MI to 187/5 in 20 overs.
Buttler goes hammer and tongs
The Royals made an excellent start to this edition’s IPL as Ajinkya Rahane and Jos Buttler put on a stand of 60 runs from 38 balls. Rahane was looking good and he scored 37 from 31 balls before holing out to Suryakumar in the deep off Krunal Pandya. After the first wicket, Buttler didn’t bog down and kept finding the boundary to score 89 runs from 43 balls with eight boundaries and seven over-boundaries.
He got to his fifty in 29 deliveries and got the required rate to a run-a-ball. Rahul Chahar got his important wicket. Sanju Samson and Steve Smith got them close. However, following Samson’s wicket, there a little bit of a stutter on RR’s part. Steve Smith and Rahul Tripathi went cheaply as well. In the last over six runs were needed, Shreyas Gopal hit a four and took the Royals over the finishing line.
