'Breathtaking Performance' - Jos Buttler's third century of the season keeps RR's winning streak intact
Fifth win of the season for Sanju Samson’s RR as they go atop the points table.
Rajasthan Royals have truly been a formidable force in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Fifth win of the season for Sanju Samson’s men as they go atop the points table. Delhi Capitals are the latest to go down against the Men in Pink. In a high-scoring affair, RR defeated the Capitals by 15 runs courtesy of a sensational hundred from Jos Buttler.
Earlier in the match, Delhi Capitals won the toss and opted to bowl at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. RR openers Jos Buttler and Devdutt Padikkal embraced the challenge and make a mockery of DC bowlers. The two dashers were equally destructive as the ball was flying all over the park. While Padikkal departed for a well-made 54 off 35 balls, Buttler went on to register his second successive ton and third of the season.
Second successive century for Jos Buttler!
He has truly been in a league of his own in IPL 2022. The late impetus was provided by skipper Sanju Samson, who scored an unbeaten 46 off mere 19 deliveries. Buttler, in total, scored 116 off 65 balls as the inaugural-season champions recorded the highest score of the season so far, 222/2. Left-arm pacers Khaleel Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman picked one wicket apiece for DC.
As DC needed a fiery start in such a massive run chase, openers David Warner and Prithvi Shaw went after the bowlers from the outset. Warner, who had slammed half-centuries in his previous three outings, looked in fine touch once again. However, he went back after scoring a 14-ball 28. Shaw (37) and skipper Rishabh Pant (44) also got starts but they too were dismissed while trying to up the ante.
The drama remained till the very last as the likes of Lalit Yadav (37) and Rovman Powell (36) weren’t ready to put their guards down. However, a sensational 19th over from Prasidh Krishna, which was a wicket maiden, sealed the game for RR. Controversy also took the center stage over a no-ball call in the final over. However, the game was eventually concluded with DC being restricted to 207/8 in their allotted 20 overs, losing the contest by 15 runs.
