Twitter Reactions: Josh Hazlewood abuses the third umpire
Australia were trying hard to get a breakthrough, the partnership between Kane Williamson and Corey Anderson was starting to look dangerous and was probably the toughest roadblock on Australia’s way to cleaning up the Kiwis. Smith had his fast bowlers in the attack to get him that wicket. Josh Hazlewood who is the most experienced among the pacers in the team was bowling well, he ran in hard and bowled a peach of a delivery to Williamson. An inswinging Yorker and it immediately looked like he had his man. But the umpire, Ranmore Martinesz thought otherwise and ruled it not out. Smith was spontaneous in referring the decision.
The third umpire Richard Illingworth checked the hot spot and one reply showed the bat had a faint edge towards the bottom and he thought it hit the ball and asked the on-field umpire Ranmore to stay with his original decision. Replays were also shown on the big screen and the Australian team looked certain it was out, but when the umpire dismissed their referral Smith and Hazlewood in particular looked furious and charged towards Ranmore seeking an explanation while also saying that they thought the bat hit Williamson’s boot and not the ball.
Hazlewood went a little too far in saying, “Who the f*** is the third umpire?” as he crossed he stumps and was clearly caught on the stump microphone.
After the end of day’s play, he was sanctioned by the match referee for his behavior and he accepted it. Hazlewood was pleaded guilty for dissent by the International Cricket Council (ICC) while the penalty will be decided later tonight.
