Twitter Reactions: Josh Inglis and Colin Munro sizzle as the feeble Renegades suffer another crushing loss
This is Renegades’ third sub-100 score while chasing in the tournament, and their 96-run loss has severely dented their already-messy position.
It seems that the Melbourne Renegades have renegaded themselves. How else a team does manage to disappoint with such unfailing consistency? The Big Bash League’s 2020-21 edition is becoming a disaster for Aaron Finch’s men, and they appear as feeble as a calf would in front of a voracious lion. With only one-third of the tournament concluded yet, the Renegades have suffered two of the largest defeats – both in terms of statistics and embarrassment, and they were uprooted once again, this time by the Perth Scorchers, in the 25th encounter of the league.
Half-centuries from Josh Inglis and Colin Munro after a solid start from the Scorchers’ opener guided them to a healthy 185 for 3. After inviting the Scorchers to bat, the Renegades’ bowlers looked insipid and meek as openers Jason Roy and Liam Livingstone took them to a solid start. Barring Jack Prestwidge, who bagged three wickets, none other could leave an impression with the ball in hand.
Inglis-Munro’s scorching stand
The Scorchers took the first blow in the 5th over, when Liam Livingstone (20 from 17) was stumped as he failed to connect one from Noor Ahmad while he danced down the track to attack him. Jason Roy, on the other end, was unable to get himself moving and his 32-ball stay was brought to an end by Prestwidge, as Roy (27 from 32) failed to clear mid-off and found Aaron Finch. The game was evenly poised until Roy’s dismissal, however, once Munro joined Inglis, nothing went Renegades’ way.
The duo slammed the bowlers all around the park during their massive 117-run stand for the third wicket, which took merely 63 deliveries. While Inglis went unbeaten on 72 from 41, slapping 7 boundaries and a couple of sixes, Munro, who scored 52 from 31, including 5 sixes, fell to Prestwidge soon after he completed his half-century. Their scintillating stand was, however, sufficient for the team to push their opponents under the pump.
Another day, another collapse for the Renegades
Another sorry story unfolded for the Renegades, who entirely botched up a close-to-9-run-per-over chase. Each of the Scorchers’ bowlers managed to bag a scalp as Jhye Richardson, Jason Behrendorff, Andrew Tye, and Livingstone got one apiece, whereas Aaron Hardie and Fawad Ahmed bagged a couple each.
The Scorchers did not allow even a single partnership for the Renegades, who kept losing wickets in clusters. Having lost their top-5 for just 41 by the 5th over, a victory was nothing but wishful thinking. However, their talisman with the ball, Jack Prestwidge (33 from 24), dragged along from his end. No more than two of their batsmen could manage runs in double-digit as they tumbled for a paltry 89. This is Renegades’ third sub-100 score while chasing in the tournament, and their 96-run loss has severely dented their already-messy position.
