Twitter Reactions: Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor keep New Zealand on top on Day 1

New Zealand ended their day one with 222 runs in their bag by loss of three wickets.

After saving a whitewash in the Kiwi land in the T20I series, Pakistan were up against New Zealand for the 1st Test at Mount Maunganui. After showing the intent to field first, Pakistan could only scalp the hosts’ three wickets by the end of day three. New Zealand was up with its fierce batting show where they posted 222 runs on the board by the end of day one.

The hero of Kiwi land Kane Williamson was up again in his utter class form as he scored 94 runs and stood unbeaten by the end of day three. He was supported well enough by Ross Taylor, who went out to score 70 runs from his end. Henry Nicholls also played a significant part as he scored 42 from his willow. Talking about Pakistan’s bowling show, Shaheen Afridi got his A-game on the table as all the three wickets came in his bag.

Afridi named all the three scalps under his name by conceding 55 runs in 20 overs. Mohammad Abbas was the other bowler who came up with an economical spell. It was Williamson and Taylor who kept Pakistan at bay by stitching a sturdy partnership of 115 runs after Afridi sent back both the openers. Before the Test series, both the nations were up against each other for the three-match T20I series where Black Caps stole the show by clinching the series 2-1.

Now, the first day of the 1st Test has already summed up where hosts looked too competitive. It would be a thing to see how visitors will turn tables on the second day. Both the nations would be up against each other for one more Test following this one. Though New Zealand looked dominating, it was noted that Pakistan gave a decent show with the ball but fell a little low in the fielding section. It was quite evident on the day one that New Zealand would we waiting up for another classy ton from Williamson’s bat on the day two of the 1st Test.
