Islamabad United registered a thrilling one-run win by getting the better of Karachi Kings in the Match 21 of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2022 on Monday, February 14. After getting to a total near the 200-run mark, the Islamabad bowlers worked in tandem to prevent Karachi’s famed batting line-up and chipped in with wickets at regular intervals as the chasing team found themselves on the back foot early on. Even skipper Babar Azam’s rough patch on the 22 yards this season continues.
The loss meant that the Karachi Kings have failed to snap their winless streak in the ongoing PSL 2022. They have now lost all seven games this season and are yet to open their account. However, this was a much-needed win for the United as they look to strengthen their playoff hopes heading into the business end of the league stages. Islamabad now have eight points to their tally having registered four wins from seven matches and are placed at the third position in the points table.
Earlier, after being asked to bat first by the Karachi Kings at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, skipper Shadab Khan led the Islamabad United from the front and scored valuable 34 runs off 26 deliveries and was also the top-scorer of United as there were no half-centuries in their innings. Young wicketkeeper Azam Khan scored 22 runs off 14 balls while the hard-hitting middle-order batter Asif Ali managed 28 runs off 11 balls. Lower-order batter Faheem Ashraf made the most of his chances towards the backend of the innings scoring an unbeaten 20 off 10 deliveries as Islamabad United posted 191/7 from their 20 overs.

Waqas Maqsood bowls a match-winning final over
In reply, opener Sharjeel Khan meant business straight away as he went after the Islamabad bowlers and made the most of the Powerplay overs as he scored 44 runs off 29 balls before being dismissed in the 11th over. After Sharjeel’s dismissal, it seemed as if the Kings would lose their way as they lost half their side for just 80 runs on the board before the middle-order duo of Imad Wasim and Qasim Akram carried out the rescue act with a 108-run stand for the sixth wicket and took Karachi on the cusp of a famous win.
With just eight runs needed off the final over, Islamabad skipper Shadab Khan handed over the ball to pacer Waqas Maqsood and he obliged by keeping things tight. Despite conceding a boundary off his second delivery, he showed nerves off steel and had Imad Wasim caught off the next one. He then succeeded in keeping Qasim Akram quiet for the next couple of deliveries before castling Thompson and running out Chris Jordan to pull off a famous win for his side.
