Twitter Reactions: Kayes and Sarkar's blitz carve clean-sweep for Bangladesh
Bangladesh won with 47 balls to spare.
After a couple of one-sided matches, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe locked horns in the dead rubber at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chottogram. The home team already won the series and they managed to whitewash their opponents with a seven-wicket victory in the third match and it was mostly because of some blistering batting by the Bangladeshi top order.
Sean Williams propels visitors to a competitive score
After the Tigers won the toss and opted to bowl first, Zimbabwe lost a couple of early wickets in the form of both their openers. While left-armer Abu Hider Rony got rid of captain Hamilton Masakadza, Mohammad Saifuddin nipped out Cephas Zhuwao to reduce the visitors to 6/2 in the third over. However, Brendan Taylor and Sean Williams came to the party.
The duo put together 132 runs for the third wicket in merely 24 overs. Spinner Nazmul Islam Apu broke the stand by dismissing Taylor for 75. Nevertheless, Williams went on to score 129 runs from 143 balls with the help of 10 boundaries and a six. The knock lifted his team to 286 in 50 overs. Sikandar Raza and Peter Moor also contributed with 40 and 28 runs respectively.
Kayes and Sarkar wreak havoc
The run-chase started on a horrendous note for Bangladesh as Kyle Jarvis sent Liton Das packing for a golden duck in the very first ball of the innings. That turned out to be the only moment of joy for Masakadza’s men as Imrul Kayes and Soumya Sarkar cobbled together a mammoth 220 runs in the next 179 balls to take the sting out of the Zimbabwean bowling attack.
Sarkar plundered six sixes and nine boundaries in his 92-ball 117. Kayes was the calmer of the two batsmen and he finished with a knock of 115 from 112 balls with the help of 10 fours and a couple of sixes. Keeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim scored 28 runs, in the end, to build a fifty plus stand and complete the formalities of scoring the remaining runs.
