West Indies wrapped up Day 3 of the first Test match against Bangladesh with the upper hand, needing only 35 runs to win the match with seven wickets in hand, going into the fourth day, at Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Ground, Antigua. It seems like it is going to be a routine victory on Day 4 for the hosts unless the Bangladeshi bowlers produce a miraculous comeback.

Bangladesh were all out for 103 in their first innings and the Windies batters virtually put the visitors to the sword by amassing a total of 265, taking the first-innings lead to 162. After it seemed like the Asian team was going to lose by an innings, the Bangladeshi batters showed some strong resistance as their newly appointed captain Shakib Al Hasan and wicketkeeper-batter Nurul Hasan saved them from the embarrassment.

Seventh-wicket partnership saves the day for Bangladesh

Shakib, coming in at number seven, scored 63 runs off 99 balls, Nurul, at number eight, scored 64 runs off 147 balls, for the seventh wicket partnership added 123 runs on board. For the hosts, it was their veteran fast bowler Kemar Roach, making a comeback to the team after an injury, who delivered with figures of five wickets for 53 runs in 24.5 overs, including the key wickets of Shakib and Nurul, and also the opening batter Mahmudul Hasan Joy for 42.

His pace bowling partner Alzarri Joseph also complemented the spell with figures of three wickets for 55 runs in 19 overs, including the wicket of the ace batter Tamim Iqbal. Bangladesh were all out for 245 and set up a target of 84.

West Indies began their chase with a slight hiccup, losing their number one batter and skipper Kraigg Brathwaite for 1 in the second over for Khaled Ahmed, and their number three for 2 in the same over. Ahmed bagged his third wicket in the fourth over, dismissing Nkrumah Bonner for a six-ball duck, and the match seemed to be in balance with the hosts struggling at 9 for the loss of three wickets. But the opener John Campbell stayed unbeaten on 28 and Jermaine Blackwood at 17, taking the game away once again from Bangladesh.
