A convincing win for St Kitts and Nevis Patriots saw skipper Chris Gayle play second fiddle to the in-form Evin Lewis. Lewis smacked a 32-ball 97 as both the openers wrapped up the scene in mere 42 balls. Chasing a target of 129, the 25-year-old plundered 11 boundaries and six sixes but failed to touch the three figure mark. It was an unusual scene for the skipper, as Gayle, who is well known for ripping the bowlers apart, played a calm and composed inning and for the most part of it watched Lewis do his job from the other end.

Each of the Barbados Tridents bowlers went for plenty. The least being Dwayne Smith, who went for 13 runs in his one over. Skipper Kieron Pollard and Ryan Wiggins had a forgettable day, as each of them was taken for 24 runs in an over each. The Tridents were not disciplined in their bowling and conceded 4 no balls along with 6 wides in just 7 overs.

Braithwaite fires with a four-for

Earlier in the game, all-rounder Carlos Braithwaite, who usually fires with the bat, made the ball talk. He scalped 4 wickets and finished his four overs with staggering figures of 4/15. He picked up the wickets of opener Smith, Tion Webstar, skipper Pollard and Wiggins. For Tridents, Webster’s 25-ball 32 was the highest in their innings.

For Tridents, Webster’s 25-ball 32 was the highest in their innings. He Webster fetched a couple of boundaries and a maximum but lost his wicket at a crucial juncture. Tridents got off to a good start but could not capitalize on it. Smith and wicketkeeper-batsman Nicholas Pooran took their side to 43 in 5 overs before the latter lost his stick to spinner Mohammad Hafeez.

Smith followed him in the very next ball, and the scoreboard read- 43/2 in 5.1 overs. The game changed from there on, as Brathwaite and the rest of the bowlers didn’t let the grip slip away.
