Gujarat Titans are through to the IPL 2022 finals, thanks to a comprehensive batting performance. It was a competitive game that went right down to the wire. A total of 188 wasn’t enough for Rajasthan Royals as GT walked away with a seven-wicket triumph in Qualifier 1. While several GT batters contributed to the victory, David Miller was the stand-out performer.

Earlier in the match, Gujarat Titans won the toss and elected to bowl at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. As the venue witnessed heavy rain on the eve of the game, there was dampness on the track. Meanwhile, RR got off to an undesirable start with Yashasvi Jaiswal perishing for just three runs. Then arrived skipper Sanju Samson at the crease and unleashed an onslaught.

While orange-cap holder Jos Buttler batted cautiously at one end, Samson was finding the boundary ropes for fun. He eventually fell prey to R Sai Kishore after scoring a quickfire 47. Buttler was then joined by Devdutt Padikkal and the southpaw also looked in fine touch. He went hard at bowlers and ended up scoring a 20-ball 28. As the slog overs approached, Buttler also opened his arms and did what he does the best.

GT fielders gave him a couple of headlines and Buttler made them pay. He ended up scoring a 56-ball 89 as the Men in Pink posted 188/6 in their allotted 20 overs. With such a massive score on the board, the Titans needed a fiery start which they didn’t get. Continuing his magic with the new ball, Trent Boult sent back the in-form Wriddhiman Saha for a duck.

Yet another sensational show from GT batters

However, just like the entire season, GT again found a way to bounce back. Shubman Gill joined forces with Matthew Wade and the duo did some quick scoring. They added 72 runs for the second wicket before perishing in 30s. While the fall of two quick wickets would have ignited hopes in the RR camp, that wasn’t really the case.

Dashers Hardik Pandya and David Miller took over the baton and kept the required run rate under control. Momentum enjoyed a rollercoaster ride in the last few overs and the equation was finally down to GT requiring 16 off the last over.

Miller, who brought up another fine half-century this season, smashed sixes off the first three balls to seal the deal. While the southpaw scored an unbeaten 68 off 38 balls, Hardik walked back for an unbeaten 40. As a result, the Titans crossed the line with three balls to spare, clinching the contest by seven wickets. Notably, RR will get another shot to qualify for finals as they’ll meet the winner of Eliminator in Qualifier 2.

Meanwhile, let’s look at how Twitter reacted to GT triumph:
