Indian skipper Virat Kohli continued his domination in the run chases. The chase master scored yet another century in the run chase during the fifth and the final ODI of the series against Sri Lanka. The century certainly reinstated him as the prime run chaser in the modern day cricket. Kohli hit his way to the 30th ODI ton en route the chase of 238.
With the ton, Virat Kohli has now equaled the tally of 30 ODI tons set by former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting. The rate at which he is plundering centuries is a good sign of things that are about to come in the Indian cricket. Kohli is a top contender to break the iconic record of Sachin Tendulkar for most number of ODI tons. This century was Kohli’s second century in the series.
Talking about the innings, Virat Kohli walked in to bat in the fifth over after the dismissal of Ajinkya Rahane. Kohli lost the support of Rohit Sharma soon after. The visitors were in a spot of bother with the scorecard reading 29/2 midway through the 8th over of the chase. But Kohli did not let the scoreboard pressure creep to him. He batted sensibly and got himself in. He found some support in Manish Pandey and then Kedar Jadhav.
Kohli built his innings to perfection by taking calculative risks. This was evident from the stat that he had hit only four boundaries when he reached his fifty on the day. Soon, after settling well enough, Kohli started to take the attack to the opposition. He reached the landmark number in the 43th over. It was a gentle volley from Akila Dananjaya and Kohli pushed it past the point region to complete yet another majestic ton.
The entire dressing room lauded the effort of the Indian skipper. Kohli had no fancy celebrations to go about it as he knew the task was yet to be completed. He eventually saw India through with 6 wickets in hand. He remained unbeaten on 110 that came off 116 deliveries with 9 fours to his name.
