Day 3 at the Wellington Test saw a marginal shift of momentum in New Zealand’s favour on the back of Tom Latham’s century after two days of Bangladesh’s dominance. The visitors resumed from their overnight score of 542/7 and batted for about an hour before declaring the innings at 595/8. Sabbir Rahman also went on to score a half century before the declaration.

Staring at a tally of 595 runs and playing in front of the home crowd, it would be stupid to say that New Zealand weren’t in any kind of pressure. The Kiwis were cautious in their approach of not giving away early wickets. They didn’t score a run in the first two overs. They had an opening partnership of 54 runs before Jeet Raval who was only playing his third Test got out. Latham and Kane Williamson then build up another 77-run partnership for the third wicket.

Williamson went on to score a brilliant half century which came almost at run a ball before falling prey to Taskin Ahmed. There was again a 74-run partnership between Latham and Taylor before Taylor gave a catch to Mahmudullah into his 40s. On the other hand, Tom Latham went on score his sixth century in Test cricket. He played his anchor role throughout the innings with perfection.

He stayed not out at 119 at the end of the day as play was called off earlier due to bad light. Henry Nicholls remained not out at 35 from the other end. Rabbi picked up a couple of wickets while Taskin got the all important wicket of Williamson. New Zealand ended the day at 292/3 and were seen dominating the day, building partnerships at regular intervals.
