Kings XI Punjab took on Kolkata Knight Riders at their fortress in Mohali. Captain Gautam Gambhir won the toss as KKR elected to field first. Both teams made no changes in their playing XIs from their previous game.
Batting first, KXIP lost Manan Vohra early as Morkel got the better of him. As soon as Murali Vijay 26 (22) got out, Punjab lost a flurry of wickets. The KKR spinners spun a web as the KXIP batting had no answer to it. Only Shaun Marsh showed some intent as he stayed not out on 56 runs from just 41 balls.
For Kolkata, Sunil Narine and Morne Morkel were the pick of the bowlers as they took 2 wickets apiece. Punjab could only post a total of 138 for the loss of 8 wickets which was by no means a good total on this pitch.
On the other hand, KKR made a fantastic start as the openers put up 82 for the first wicket. Uthappa scored a splendid 53 from 28 balls. Gambhir also scored a run a ball 34. The great start paved way for a comfortable win. The Punjab bowlers did manage to snarl some wickets in the end, but it was quite late as KKR won the game by 6 wickets with 17 balls to spare.
With this win, KKR climbed to the top of the points table. Twitter was at it’s best with some entertaining tweets throughout the KKR-KXIP match. Here are some of the tweets during the course of the game

Poor Yusuf Pathan had to be woken from his nap to bat. The IPL is too rough on the players.#KXIPvKKR

KKR have missed out on a chance to improve their run-rate, credit to KXIP spinners.

Not many openers play spin better than Gautam Gambhir…excellent use of the feet. Down the pitch and deep inside the box #KXIPvKKR
