Twitter Reactions: Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) shell out a stunning 15.5 crores for Pat Cummins
Cummins became the second most expensive player in the history of the IPL after Yuvraj Singh.
Pat Cummins has been a tad injury prone in his career, but he has been a brute for the Australian team irrespective of the format. He is a kind of bowler, who hardly drops in intensity and gives it his all every time he steps on top the cricket field. Over the last couple of years, the fast bowler has been amongst the leading wicket-takers, showing how much effective he can be.
Cummins didn’t play the last editions of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He was picked by Mumbai Indians (MI) in 2018, but a back injury ruled him out of the tournament. For the 2020 Auction, he set himself a base price of INR 2 crore and it wasn’t high keeping in mind his contributions across formats. It was pretty much known, the right-arm speedster will go big in the auction.
Pat Cummins setting the IPL auction ablaze
In the end, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) snapped him for a mammoth INR 15.5 crores. Therefore, Cummins became the second most expensive player ever in the IPL Auction after Yuvraj Singh. It was the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), who started the bidding for the seamer. Thereafter, the Delhi Capitals (DC) started going after him. The duo was involved in a bidding war for him.
RCB going after him was understandable since the team strained in their bowling department last season. His price went on escalating at a rate of knots and even after it crossed 10 crores, RCB and DC didn’t throw in the towel. They kept going hammer and tongs. Just when it seemed that one of them will get Cummins’ services, the Knight Riders jumped in from nowhere.
They put in a bid of INR 15 crore after which the Capitals backed out. The Challengers put in a bid of 15.25 crores, but KKR hit back with a bid of 15.5 crores. No other team went for him and Cummins will now be returning to a franchise he has represented before. In the meantime, Twitterati was left absolutely dumbstruck after Cummins bagged the lucrative deal in the T20 tournament.
