Twitter Reactions: Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chaha bowl Lanka out for 215
Like it happens so often from 135/1 Sri Lanka were bowled out for 215 as they lost the last nine wickets for just 79 runs.
On what looked like a beautiful batting wicket Indian captain Rohit Sharma won the toss in the series decider in Vizag. Given the strength of the Indian team in chasing totals down, he decided to bowl first. The Sri Lankans were happy to accept the offer and walked out with aggressive intent. Upul Tharanga and Danushka Gunathilaka played their shots early on.
But Gunathilaka played one shot too many and was caught by Rohit at mid-off in the 4th over of the innings from Jasprit Bumrah. The visitors had a partnership thereafter as Tharanga and Samarawickrama added 121 runs together. It all looked good and the team was in a position to authoritate towards a big total.
However, like it happens so often from 135/1 Sri Lanka were bowled out for 215 as they lost the last nine wickets for just 79 runs. It was the Indian leg-spin twin that caused all the damage today, Yuzvendra Chahal got them the breakthrough with the wicket of Samarawickrama. Kuldeep Yadav soon got a hang of the line and pace at which he should be bowling on this surface.
Tharanga who had batted beautifully till then was stumped by MS Dhoni off Kuldeep. He fell just 6 runs short of a hundred as he dragged his foot marginally out of the crease. Thereafter it was a slide and all the Indian bowlers got wickets.
Both the spinners shared 6 wickets between them while all-rounder Hardik Pandya who had a much expensive start to his spell made a good comeback to make up for it and also scalped a couple of wickets to finish with figures of 2/49 in his 10. The two pacers Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Bumrah shared a wicket apiece.
The total isn’t as challenging though the surface is gripping and has something to offer to the slower bowlers which will bring Akila Dhananjaya in the game and the Indian batsmen know they need to be wary of him. It will be interesting to see how the Indians approach the innings and who takes the series.
