Twitter Reactions: Late strikes get CSK back in the hunt after Gayle storm, Rahul special hits Mohali
Gayle scored 63 off just 33 deliveries with 7 fours and four sixes to his name before perishing in the 12th over.
The fans in Mohali were treated with some brilliant display of class and power hitting from the home side. The stage was set and ready for the second game of the super Sunday. After the royal derby in Bengaluru, the action moved north to Mohali where the Kings XI Punjab hosted the Chennai Super Kings. Coming to the game, both sides had contrasting times in the previous encounters.
The Kings XI Punjab had lost their previous game against the RCB team in an away fixture. On the other hand, the Chennai Super Kings had registered a thrilling win over the Kolkata Knight Riders in their home game. Over the years, the KXIP and CSK camps have been involved in several close encounters. They have always provided thorough entertainment. And now, as the things stand out at the half way stage, the match up between the two sides in 2018 is proving out to be an exciting prospect again.
In the match, the CSK skipper MS Dhoni won the toss and opted to bowl first. The big news from the center was that the Kings had roped in Chris Gayle at the expense of Marcus Stoinis. And much to the delight of the fans, Gayle storm did arrive in the very first appearance of the ‘Universe Boss’ in the IPL colors for KXIP. The Kings got off to a flying start with Chris Gayle and KL Rahul scoring briskly in the powerplay.
While Rahul teed off from the very first ball, Gayle took his initial bit to get a look in. Rahul then hit some nonchalant drives, and Gayle muscled the balls at will to keep the scorecard moving. The duo helped the hosts post 75 runs in the powerplay. They added 96 for the first wicket. After Rahul’s dismissal on 37 (22), Gayle rallied along on his own. Gayle scored 63 off just 33 deliveries with 7 fours and four sixes to his name before perishing in the 12th over.
Mayank Agarwal, Yuvraj Singh, and Karun Nair played handy cameos to help KXIP post 197/7 in the stipulated 20 overs. It was a bit of an anti-climax as the Kings could not cross the 200-mark. They were eyeing a total in the proximity of 230 at one stage. The last over yielded just 4 runs for the hosts.
