Twitter Reactions: Lendl Simmons, bowlers guide TKR to comprehensive win over Jamaica Tallawahs
Imad Wasim scored a 38-ball 42 and ended with figures of 4-0-19-2, but his efforts went in vain.
Trinbago Knight Riders got back to winning back with a resounding seven-wicket win over Jamaica Tallawahs at the Warner Park. The victory also lifted them from fifth to third in the CPL points table. As far as the Rovman Powell-led Tallawahs are concerned, they went out of the top four.
Wasim and Brathwaite bail the Tallawahs out
After bring put in to bat first, the Tallawahs got off to a disastrous start as they were reduced to 15 for five in the first six overs. None of Kennar Lewis, Kirk McKenzie, Haider Ali, Powell and Jason Mohammed could get into double digits.
Imad Wasim and Carlos Brathwaite stitched together a partnership of 83 runs for the sixth wicket. Even as Brathwaite scored 58, Wasim made a handy 38-ball 42. For the Knights, Akeal Hosein and Ravi Rampaul were the most successful as they picked up two wickets each.
Simmons take TKR home
In the run-chase, TKR lost Sunil Narine to Wasim in the second over. However, Colin Munro and Lendl Simmons’ 102-run partnership blew the Tallawahs away. Simmons wasn’t having the best of campaigns, but his 45-ball 70 put the Knight Riders in a commanding position.
His knock was laced with five fours and as many sixes before Migael Pretorius castled him. Munro’s run-a-ball 34 also helped the Knights. After doing well with the bat in hand, Wasim also performed with the ball, having picked up two wickets for a mere 19 runs.
It was not a 15-5 wicket: Rovman Powell
After TKR won, their skipper Kieron Pollard lauded the bowlers for showing a lot of consistency. However, he also talked about improvement in TKR’s batting going forward. Powell, on the other hand, reckoned that poor shot selections let the Tallawahs down.
“I’m pleased with the two points, and it’s been a hot and cold season. Hopefully we can get some consistency going forward. Nothing to assess so far for the bowling, they’ve been doing well, Rampaul’s experience shows clearly and he knows how to exploit the conditions. Akeal and Narine have done well to support him too,” Pollard said
“It was not a 15-5 wicket. TKR bowled well and some bad shots in the powerplay brought us down. Imad and Carlos did well, and that’s the thing about the team, someone puts their hand up,” Powell was quoted as saying.
“The catches haven’t been taken this year and last year and that’s something we need to get right. Shamarh (Brooks) and Chadwick are being tended to by the physio and they’ll be fine soon,” he added.
